Education and research in the development process have been a work focus of ÖFSE since 1987. Current tasks in this area include the pursuance of strategies and concepts of education and research funding of donor countries and donor institutions, the “Education for All” and “Education for Sustainable Development” processes, capacity development, as well as the development of educational structures in developing countries. As a result of the United Nations Millennium Declaration and the discussions about a “global knowledge society”, science and research has regained ground in the international debate as important aspects of the development process in addition to primary and /or basic education. As an academic institution, the pursuance of these discussions and their reflection in Austria is also an important concern for ÖFSE.

To increase transparency in this field, ÖFSE provides documentation on the players that are committed to the topics of education and research funding, science and research cooperations in Austria. In addition, ÖFSE maintains the file of scholarship holders of the Contact Committee for the Support of Students from Third World Countries, which comprises all relevant student funding programmes in Austria and, if required, adds new programmes to it.
