Facts and Figures

The "Education – Research – Development" section of ÖFSE maintains the central data file of the Contact Committee for the Support of Students from Third World Countries (Kontaktkomitee Studienförderung Dritte Welt - KKS) which lists students from developing countries who are supported in Austria by means of student funding programmes of the Austrian Development Cooperation (OEZA) and by means of scholarship programmes of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture/Federal Ministry of Science and Research, technology scholarships for South-East-Asia and/or China and Mongolia (Austrian Council for Research and Technology Development/Rat für Forschung und Technologieentwicklung), the Catholic Women's Movement (Katholischen Frauenbewegung) and other donors.

This facilitates a long-term overview of the development of numbers of scholarship holders from developing countries in Austria. The data are published annually in the form of standardised tables as the information service “Scholarship holders from non-European developing countries and Turkey in Austria” (StipendiatInnen aus außereuropäischen Entwicklungsländern und der Türkei in Österreich”) (pdf) which also contains information about the region of origin and the place of study of the scholarship holders as well as comparisons between the number of scholarship holders and the total number of students at Austrian academic universities from the individual developing regions. In 2008 ÖFSE prepared an overview of the Austrian landscape of student and research funding for individuals from developing countries.

Apart from the above-mentioned file, the "Education and Educational Cooperation" section also maintains a long-term overview of the students at academic universities in Austria. The statistical analysis of the data provided by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture, the Federal Ministry of Science and Research, and Statistics Austria is made available to the interested public in the form of comprehensive tables as the information service “Development of student numbers at academic universities in Austria” (”Entwicklung der HörerInnenzahlen an den wissenschaftlichen Universitäten in Österreich”) (pdf).
