Wachstum ohne Ende?! Eine Living Library zur Ausstellung „Endlich Wachstum! Wirtschaftswachstum, Grenzen und Alternativen"

System Change, not Climate Change! holte die Wanderausstellung „Endlich Wachstum“ im Februar 2019 nach Wien. Im Rahmen des Kooperationsprojekts und der Veranstaltungsreihe Bildung im C3ntrum veranstalteten die C3-Organisationen ÖFSE, Frauen*solidarität, Paulo Freire Zentrum und Mattersburger Kreis eine Living Library zum Thema „Wirtschaftswachstum, Grenzen und Alternativen“.

SchülerInnen forschen für eine Welt mit Zukunft. 3 Jahre VWA im C3

Mit dem verpflichtenden Vorwissenschaftlichen Arbeiten im Rahmen der Matura ergibt sich eine Reihe an Herausforderungen für Schüler_innen: Welche Themen eignen sich für meine Arbeit? Was ist eine gute Fragestellung? Wie finde ich die richtige Literatur für meine Arbeit?

Die C3-Bibliothek und die Organisationen des C3 - Centrum für Internationale Entwicklung bieten Schüler_innen und Lehrenden im Zuge des Vorwissenschaftlichen Arbeitens eine Reihe an Angeboten, von der Themenfindung über die Literatursuche bis zu einem Preis für herausragende Vorwissenschaftliche Arbeiten, den C3 Award.

Building a New Partnership between Africa and the EU. Business as usual or a transforming agenda?

The negotiations on a new agreement between the EU and the ACP-Countries (African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States) will start during the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2018. Considering the economic and geopolitical strategies of China in Africa on the one hand and the international consensus of implementing the Sustainable Development agenda on the other hand demands new political commitments and new strategies in the European relationship with Africa. This conference highlighted the importance of the African European relationship and offered space for discussions, information and facts about economic and political strategies from different perspectives.

The Conference was organised by ÖFSE and EADI (European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes).

On the occasion of her visit to Vienna to participate at the foundation of the International Karl Polanyi Society, Professor Kari Polanyi-Levitt, noted Canadian development economist, reflects on the continued relevance of and the challenges for development economics in the age of neoliberal globalization.
At the event, Prof Polanyi Levitt also received an award for her lifetime achievements by the City of Vienna, presented to her by City Counsellor Renate Brauner.

Vor dem Hintergrund, dass in Österreich im Kontext der Debatte um Flucht und Migration aus Afrika verschiedentlich die Forderung erhoben wurde, dass es einen „Marshall-Plan“ braucht, um die wirtschaftlichen Aussichten in afrikanischen Ländern rasch und grundlegend so zu verbessern, sodass junge AfrikanerInnen auch in ihren Heimatländern gute Perspektiven haben, soll Realitätsgehalt, Voraussetzungen und mögliche sinnvolle Maßnahmen zur Stärkung der wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung in Afrika, vor dem Hintergrund der in Deutschland weiter fortgeschrittenen Diskussion zum Thema (Compact for Africa, BMZ Marshallplan), diskutiert werden.

Referent: Prof. em. Dr. Robert Kappel war 1996-2004 Professor am Institut für Afrikanistik der Universität Leipzig. Von 2004-2011 war Robert Kappel Präsident des GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies in Hamburg. Gegenwärtig forscht er zu den Themen Wirtschaftsentwicklung in Afrika, global value chains und global power shifts.
