C3 - Centrum für Internationale Entwicklung
The new multipolar global order and the challenge of the SDGs
ÖFSE 50th anniversary
Public Opening Event and One-day Conference
With Klaus Töpfer (IASS Potsdam), Jayati Ghosh, (Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi), Ulrich Brand (University of Vienna), Jens Martens (Global Policy Forum) and others
The past two decades witnessed significant shifts in international power relations. The post war economic and political order is being replaced by new and more complex scenarios. At the same time, economic, social and ecological imbalances persist. While there has been tremendous technological progress and accumulation of wealth, many millions of citizens still have inadequate access to the most basic conditions of decent life. Thus, the challenges for realizing a socio-ecological transformation envisioned by the UN Sustainable Development Goals are tremendous.
The conference will analyse the changing geopolitical order from different viewpoints and address related potentials and challenges for advancing towards more sustainability and equity as articulated in the UN Agenda 2030. It will further discuss interfaces between research and policy implementation in this context.
The conference will start with an opening event on October 12 and continue with a conference on October 13.
