Austrian Launch of the 2026 GEM Report “Countdown to 2030: Access and equity”

The Austrian Commission for UNESCO, the Austrian Foundation for Development Research, and the Faculty of Philosophy and Education of the University of Vienna cordially invite you to the national presentation of the UNESCO-Global Education Monitoring Report 2026 "Access and equity".

Manos Antoninis, Director of the UNESCO Global Education Monitoring Report, will give insights into the report’s findings. In a subsequent panel discussion, Christoph Wiederkehr, Federal Minister of Education, and national experts will analyse questions relating to access and equity on a global and national level and address current challenges in the education system.

International Conference on Inequity in Education

How has the global discourse on educational equity evolved, what progress has been made within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and what direction must be set for the post-2030 era? These and other central questions will be at the heart of the international conference “Inequity in Education”, to which the Austrian Commission for UNESCO, the Austrian Foundation for Development Research, and the Faculty of Philosophy and Education at the University of Vienna cordially invite you.

The conference offers exclusive insights into current global data and scientific analyses:

• Dr. Manos Antoninis, Director of the UNESCO Global Education Monitoring Report, will present the latest findings from the current GEM Report on “Access and Equity in Education.”
• Prof. Pauline Rose, Director of the Research for Equitable Access and Learning (REAL) Centre at the University of Cambridge, will address the evolution of equity discourses during the SDG period in her keynote and discuss implications for global education frameworks post-2030.

Following the main presentations, participants can expect a broad thematic program:

• 9 Parallel Sessions: Presentation and discussion of current research findings.
• 1 Thematic Panel: In-depth panel discussion on key future issues.
• 3 Workshops: Interactive formats for directly developing solutions.

In total, nearly 40 international experts from academia and practice will contribute their expertise to collaborate with attendees on developing new perspectives for greater equity in education.
