Industrial policy has returned to the European Union with a vengeance. In this collected volume, a variety of authors with different background addresses the challenges of designing and implementing industrial policies in the European Union, but also globally.
The analyses tackle critical external dependencies of the EU, address labour market challenges, identify institutional and governance deficits of the prevailing approach, and discuss the lacking macrofinancial framework of the EU. The final section presents proposals for a progressive industrial policy agenda promoting the twin transformation. The book makes the case that industrial policy in the EU should promote a new economic model serving both planet and people. For this, it needs to based on expanded democratic participation, and must align security objectives with a new social contract, while accelerating the green transformation.
